A speculative science documentary asks what would actually happen if a comet struck Earth today, the way one did 65 million years ago. Rather than staying in the studio, the film follows real people through the hypothetical countdown: Fernando Martinez racing to reach his family, the Vaton family in France building a shelter, and Baka pygmy hunters in the Congo basin carrying on their day unaware anything is coming. Scientists interspersed through the narrative explain what a comet impact does to the atmosphere, the food chain, and the climate in the months and years after, using the Cretaceous extinction as their working model for scale. The structure alternates between this grounded, human-level story and the bigger mechanics of extinction-level events, asking which of our current survival instincts and infrastructure would actually hold up. It plays out less like a disaster movie than a thought experiment carried by ordinary people, using their reactions to make an abstract planetary threat feel immediate.
