Sandie, 47, a twice-divorced mother of two from Somerset, England, is one of more than 100 British women married or engaged to men on America's Death Row. The film follows her wedding to Charles 'Chucky' Mamou, convicted of a double murder during a drug deal, a Texas ceremony where non-contact rules meant Sandie's father-in-law stood in for the groom, presenting the ring and standing beside the pastor. That marriage collapses within four months after Sandie discovers Chucky has been writing sex letters to another woman. Undeterred, and with up to 30 prison penpals behind her, she falls for Reginald Blanton, 28, convicted of shooting a friend in the head, who proposes despite a 19-year age gap between them. Their relationship exists entirely through annual visits and hundreds of letters, and as Reginald loses his final appeal, Sandie prepares to be present for his execution. The documentary uses interviews and personal video to sit inside a relationship built entirely around a countdown neither party controls.
