Drones and hidden cameras go inside Australian factory farms, slaughterhouses, and dairy operations to record what the industry does not show customers: chickens crammed into sheds, pigs in gestation crates, cattle in kill chutes, day-old male chicks discarded on a conveyor belt. The footage was gathered over several years of undercover filming and follows animals from birth through transport to slaughter, matched against the marketing images of pastoral farms that appear on egg cartons and meat packaging. Narration by Sia and Joaquin Phoenix, among other voices, frames the footage rather than dramatizing it, letting the industrial process speak for itself. Farmers and industry figures are shown in their own words defending standard practices, which the film argues are the practices, not aberrations. The camera lingers on routine procedures, debeaking, tail docking, electrical stunning, treating them as the ordinary machinery of a global food system built on animals most viewers never see. It is a hard watch by design, built to close the gap between the product and the process.
