Escape from North Korea & World's Most Dangerous Border

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Two reports on the world's most dangerous crossings open with North Korean defectors making their way through China on the network sometimes called the underground railroad. The film follows the routes these escapees take, the brokers and safe houses that move them, and the risk they run if caught in Laos, where forced repatriation to North Korea can mean prison camps or execution. Interviews and footage trace the fear that shadows every step, from the initial river crossing out of North Korea to the long overland trip toward freedom in South Korea. The second half shifts to the Kashmir frontier between India and Pakistan, a heavily militarized line where two nuclear-armed states have fought repeated wars. The film shows the soldiers, checkpoints, and villages caught along this border and lays out why a local skirmish here carries global stakes. Together the two segments treat borders as places where politics turns into daily survival.
