In a back room of a studio in Essen, a former industrial city in Germany, a small group of self-described biohackers gathers to implant chips under their own skin. The film follows the grinder movement, hobbyists and enthusiasts who see the body as a platform to upgrade rather than a fixed limit, and who perform these procedures themselves rather than waiting for medicine or industry to catch up. Cameras stay close as needles, scalpels, and RFID chips go to work, and the people involved explain what they hope the implants will let them do, from unlocking doors to storing data under the skin. Interviews with participants sit alongside the blood and mess of amateur surgery, and the film treats the scene neither as freak show nor utopia, letting the grinders make their own case for why they want to become part machine. It is a small, unpolished look at where consumer biohacking stood at one specific moment, in one specific room in Essen.
