Star gates, in this episode of the series Extreme Universe, means wormholes: hypothetical shortcuts through spacetime that general relativity does not forbid but nothing observed has ever confirmed. The film lays out the physics case for tunnels connecting distant points in the universe, the exotic negative energy such a tunnel would require to stay open, and the black holes that might mark one end of such a passage. It sits within a six-episode run written by Rob Blumenstein and John Coll Metcalfe, and carries over that series' habit of pairing extreme cosmic objects with the extreme physics needed to explain them. Sources on this particular episode are thin beyond its premise, but the core question is plain enough: if a gateway across the universe is mathematically possible, what would it take to actually find or build one, and would anything survive the trip through it.
