Eye of the Pangolin: The Search for an Animal on the Edge

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Two filmmakers set out to do something no one had managed before: film all four species of African pangolin in the wild on camera. The pangolin is the world's most trafficked mammal, prized in parts of Asia for its scales and meat, yet so elusive that most rangers who work alongside it have never seen one. The crew tracks the ground pangolin across arid savannah, then pushes into dense equatorial jungle chasing the rarer giant and tree pangolins, working with local trackers and conservationists who know the terrain and the animal's habits better than anyone. Long stretches of patient, quiet camerawork capture the pangolin curling into its armored ball, foraging for ants, and moving through the undergrowth with a slow, deliberate gait. Interviews with the men behind the project explain why so little footage of this animal exists and what its disappearance would mean. The film doubles as a case for protecting a species most viewers will never have heard of before watching.
