Alyssa, a young Asian-American woman in California, quits a secure office job to become a boxer, choosing personal fulfillment over financial stability. As her first fight approaches, she initially hides her plans from her family, and when she finally tells them, the conversation ends in tears and an unresolved argument about risk and security. In India, Manuel trades a conventional path for crypto and digital startups, making and losing sums that reach a million dollars while his mother worries openly about who will look after her if his gambles fail. The film cuts between the two households, letting parents and children argue their positions directly to camera and to each other rather than through narration. Interviews with both generations lay out the generational fault line plainly: security versus ambition, tradition versus self-determination. Part of DW's Us & Them series, the episode stays close to its two families and lets their disagreements, not commentary, carry the argument about what a good life is supposed to look like.
