A police officer recalls guiding a line of cars through smoke so thick the sun disappeared at nine in the morning. Firefighters describe arriving to find the fire already moving faster than they could plan for, jumping roads and consuming neighborhoods block by block. Interviews with those who lost homes, and in some cases family members, sit alongside footage of the burned-out town afterward.
