England in the 1640s tears itself apart as Parliament and King Charles I break into open war, a conflict that sets father against son and brother against brother across the country. This film traces how that rupture escalated from political deadlock into armed conflict, and follows the men at the center of it, from the King's court to the Parliamentary benches, as alliances shift and battle lines harden. Rather than treating the war as a single clean story, it separates out who actually gained power once the fighting ended and who lost everything, land, title, or life, in the settlement that followed. The film argues that the war's outcome did more than decide a single throne: it reshaped the relationship between crown and government for generations afterward. Portraits of the key figures anchor the narrative, giving the constitutional argument a human face rather than leaving it as abstract political history.
