Becca Barnet works with dead animals for a living, and this short film watches her do it: skinning, mounting, and rebuilding creatures into taxidermy pieces at her workbench. The camera stays close on her hands as she works through the unglamorous mechanics of the craft, the tools, the preservation chemicals, the patient rebuilding of form from a hide. Barnet talks through why she does this work and what draws her to a trade most people find unsettling, treating taxidermy as a real artistic discipline rather than a curiosity. There's no narrator standing between the viewer and the process; it's her voice and her hands carrying the film. Short, plain, and specific, it works as a portrait of one practitioner and her craft rather than a survey of taxidermy as a field.
