Founders Valley: Digital Solutions for Decent Lives (Ghana)
Nearly a third of Ghana's 31 million people rely on farming or fishing, and many of them remain among the country's poorest despite the nation's cocoa, soybean, rice and fishing wealth. This episode of the Founders Valley series follows young Ghanaian entrepreneurs building apps and digital platforms meant to connect farmers and fishers directly to buyers, cut out exploitative middlemen, and open new markets through online marketing and social media. Filmmakers Elisabeth Lehmann and Chrispin Mwashagha Mwakideu follow the founders into the field, watching them pitch their tools to skeptical farmers and fishing communities and test whether the technology actually works where it's needed most. The film keeps returning to the hard limit on the whole project: only about half of Ghana's population has internet access, so every solution has to reckon with who gets left out. Interviews with the entrepreneurs sit alongside scenes of daily labor on farms and boats, grounding the tech optimism in the realities of rural poverty it's trying to fix.
