In 1998, Ike Nnaebue set out from Nigeria hoping to reach Europe, turning back only after a stranger's warning left him stranded, broke, in Mauritania. Now a well-known Nollywood director, he retraces the same route with a camera crew, traveling through Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, Mali and Mauritania to Tangier in Morocco. Along the way he talks with the men and women currently making the same journey, asking why they are willing to risk trafficking, abuse and death for a chance at a better life abroad. His own history gives him an unusual position: he is not a journalist parachuting into the story but someone who lived it and turned back, spending two years in Gambia before going home to build a career in film. The documentary mixes his personal recollections with the testimony of current migrants, building a picture of West Africa's migration corridors from the inside rather than through statistics or news footage shot from a distance.
