Jayceon Taylor grew up in Compton, California, in a household his own account calls dysfunctional, with a Crip father and mother and a childhood spent around drugs and guns. Foster care took him in at seven; by fifteen he was back with his mother, and at twenty-one he was shot five times in his own apartment and spent three days in a coma. The film traces how that survivor became The Game, signed by Dr. Dre to Aftermath Entertainment and launched by his 2005 debut album The Documentary into two Grammy nominations. It follows the G-Unit years and the public feud with 50 Cent that turned into one of hip hop's most public fallouts, then the run of albums that kept him working through it, Doctor's Advocate and LAX among them. Previously unseen concert footage and interviews carry the second half, as Taylor talks about depression, his children, and his faith. The film treats the violence as backstory, not spectacle, and lets him narrate his own recovery.
