JVA Aachen holds over 700 inmates and carries a reputation as Germany's most dangerous correctional facility, housing murderers, sex offenders, and other high-security prisoners. The film goes inside daily operations, following officers as they conduct routine cell inspections and manage the constant tension of controlling a population with little to lose. Interviews with staff explain how they assess risk and keep order among men serving long sentences for violent crimes, while conversations with inmates get at what led them there and how they experience confinement day to day. The film also turns to the families outside the walls, who describe visiting rights, the stigma of having a relative locked up, and the strain of maintaining relationships across prison glass.
