At the White Mountain mine north of Nuuk, reachable only by boat or helicopter, foreman Niels Ole is one of the few Greenlandic supervisors among a largely foreign workforce extracting anorthosite for glass fiber and insulation. Social worker Ane Pipaluk cares for teenagers from families hit by unemployment and alcoholism, many of whom drop out of a school system she describes as failing them.
