Germany's shortage of nurses and care workers has turned Albania into a recruitment target, and this film follows the people caught in the resulting brain drain. In Tirana, twenty-two-year-old Alketa Kaja takes a specialized German language course for medical staff, her fees covered by a German clinic that has already offered her a job. She is one of roughly half of Albania's trained healthcare workers who end up leaving for wealthier countries in western Europe. Kastriot Qehaja represents the other half: he stays despite low pay and grueling hours, caring for elderly Albanians whose own children have emigrated for work. The film moves between language classrooms, hospital wards, and family homes, letting its subjects explain their choices directly rather than through voiceover argument. Interviews with workers, employers, and recruiters lay out the mechanics of the exchange, and the film's quiet argument is that Germany's fix for its own shortage becomes someone else's shortage. It closes without resolving whose calculation, Alketa's or Kastriot's, is the right one.
