Panchavarnam becomes the first woman Panchayat President in her region in fifty years. Badli Bai works as a village banker, handling money and accounts in a job long assumed to belong to men. Ramvati runs her own business, and Poonam trains as a police officer, one of the few women in her district to put on the uniform. The film moves between these women and others across different parts of India, following them into the fields, offices, and stations where they work, and letting them describe in their own words what it took to get there: the family objections, the social rules bent or broken, the first days on a job no woman before them had held locally. There is no single narrator steering the argument; the women's own accounts of resistance and resilience carry the film. Their occupations differ, but the pattern repeats in each: a barrier that existed until one woman decided it did not have to.
