Hitler's Frozen Army

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

In a wooded stretch of central Russia, a team of volunteer diggers combs the ground for what the Eastern Front left behind. They turn up corroded gas masks, crushed helmets, mangled tank hulls, and fragments of artillery shells, the physical debris of the German army's catastrophic push toward Moscow and its collapse in the brutal winter that followed. The film follows the search as it happens, letting each recovered object anchor a piece of the historical record, from frozen supply lines to abandoned equipment left where soldiers fell. Interviews and on-site footage trace how ill-prepared Wehrmacht units were for Russian winter conditions, and how that unpreparedness turned a military campaign into a slow disaster. Rather than a broad overview of the war, this is a ground-level account built from rusted metal and buried remains, using the scavengers' finds to reconstruct what happened to the men who carried them.
