The sailing vessel Pestilence carries a crew of self-described anarchists and drifters across open water, and this film follows them through the daily work of keeping the boat and each other afloat. There is no scripted plot, just the routine of life at sea: mechanical breakdowns, storm weather, and the long stretches of quiet in between. The crew talk about why they left conventional life on land, what they gave up to do it, and what "hold fast" means to them beyond the sailor's term for gripping a line in bad weather. The camera follows the boat through remote islands and colder, ice-flecked seas, favoring long shots of water and rigging over narration, with an ambient score carrying most scenes rather than dialogue. It plays less like an adventure story with a destination than a portrait of people who have chosen an unstable, self-sufficient way of living and are still figuring out if it works.
