Inside Israeli prisons, filmmaker Shimon Dotan finds a parallel institution: a school and parliament for the Palestinian national movement. Interviews shot inside the cells and yards bring together prisoners from Fatah, Hamas, and the PFLP, men who debate strategy, run informal universities, and negotiate internal politics while serving sentences that in some cases stretch across decades. Israeli prison officials and interrogators appear alongside them, describing how they read and try to manage this internal hierarchy. Family visits, hunger strikes, and the elections prisoners hold among themselves for their own leadership structures all get screen time, building a picture of incarceration as a formative stage in Palestinian political life rather than an endpoint to it. Dotan lets his subjects, several of them serving life terms for attacks on Israelis, speak at length about how they see their cause and their future outside, without inserting a narrator to referee the claims. The result is a close, uncomfortable look at how a prison system meant to contain a movement ended up training its next generation of leaders.
