Germany's economic collapse after the First World War set the stage for Hitler's rise, and this film traces how that crisis produced the men who ran his regime. Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler and Hermann Göring each get a close look, from their early ambitions to the roles they carved out once the Nazi Party took power. The film treats the inner circle as a study in opportunism, showing how hyperinflation, mass unemployment and the collapse of the Weimar government gave ordinary men an opening to build careers on propaganda, terror and military expansion. Archival photographs and period footage anchor the account of how Hitler assembled his lieutenants and set them loose on separate portfolios of control, Goebbels over messaging, Himmler over the police state, Göring over the military machine. The result is less a portrait of one dictator than of the bureaucratic and economic conditions that let his captains flourish alongside him.
