Every landscape on Earth carries a record of violent geological events, and this thirteen-episode series reads that record site by site. Each episode picks one place and works backward through the forces that built it: geologists trace how a flash flood may have helped carve the natural harbor that makes New York City's port possible, how the Great Lakes formed from retreating ice sheets, and how the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa reshaped an island and sent shockwaves around the planet. On-location footage puts scientists at the rock faces, coastlines, and craters they are interpreting, and graphics reconstruct processes that unfolded over millions of years, from continental collision to volcanic buildup, into something visible in minutes. The approach is forensic rather than narrative: each landscape is treated as a crime scene with rock layers, sediment, and landforms as evidence, and geologists explain what that evidence rules in or out. Across thirteen episodes the series moves from American rivers to Pacific volcanoes, building a working method for reading any landscape's deep history from what is still sitting on the surface.
