Abdourahmane is a fixer in Mauritania, arranging boat crossings that carry groups of young West Africans across the Atlantic toward Europe. The film follows him as he organizes one such trip, introducing the captain, also named Abdourahmane, an experienced navigator who is candid about the risk to his own life on a small, overloaded boat. Interviews and on-the-ground footage trace how poverty and a lack of opportunity push people toward paying fixers fortunes for a passage that may kill them, while officials and warnings about the dangers go largely unheeded. The documentary draws a deliberate parallel to the transatlantic slave trade of the 16th century, asking whether today's fixers are simply a modern version of the slave catchers who once profited from West African bodies, and whether voluntary migration for cheap labor abroad differs meaningfully from the forced transport of the past. It is a grounded look at who profits from desperation, and at the people who decide the risk is worth taking anyway.
