Hunting Pablo Escobar

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

By 1989, Forbes magazine ranked Pablo Escobar as the seventh-richest man on earth, with a personal fortune approaching $25 billion built on the Medellin cartel's cocaine trade. This film traces the manhunt that followed his rise, from the cartel's bombings and assassinations that terrorized Colombia to the joint Colombian-American task force assembled to bring him down. Archival news footage and interviews reconstruct the violence Escobar's empire unleashed on judges, police, and politicians, and the escalating pressure that pushed him into hiding after his surrender and escape from the La Catedral prison he built for himself. The narrative follows the Search Bloc units and informants who tracked him through Medellin's rooftops until his death in a 1993 shootout. Rather than romanticizing the cartel boss, the film uses the paper trail of wealth and bodies to explain how one trafficker briefly outmatched two governments, and what it took to finally close the case.
