Deachen, a 15-year-old from Ladakh, wants to make the youth squad of India's national women's ice hockey team. The problem is that the frozen lakes she needs to train on are freezing later each year, a direct casualty of the warming climate in the high Himalayan plateaus. Stuck at boarding school in Leh, she practices with a tennis ball on tarmac because there is no rink and no ice yet to skate on. The film follows her back to her home village of Chumathang for vacation, where she finally gets on real ice just as the captain of India's national women's team arrives to scout talent for the youth squad. Ice hockey is Ladakh's most popular winter sport, and the documentary uses Deachen's individual ambition to show a shrinking practice season and a shorter winter squeezing an entire regional sporting culture.
