Ida is weeks from turning eighteen in Chow Kit, the neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur known as the city's red light district. The film follows her daily routine there, tracking her efforts to find steady work and hold her family together as she cares for her twin sister and her mother amid poverty and the drug use common on the surrounding streets. The camera stays close on her at home and out in the neighborhood, watching her weigh what a coming-of-age transition into adulthood actually looks like when the options in front of her are limited.
