In Mkpat Enin, a local government area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, one stream supplies an entire community's water needs. Idim Ikot Ekpo Stream serves as bathing spot, laundry site, and drinking source all at once, with no alternative available to residents. The GWENI research team visits the site to document how families, especially women and children, navigate the stream's terrain and conditions to fetch water they will also cook and wash with. The film stays close to the physical reality of that dependence: the same body of water carrying multiple uses that would normally be kept separate, and the daily risk that creates for the people who have no other option. Rather than offering solutions, the footage functions as a record of current conditions, framed as evidence for why the community needs a different water source. It is a small, local case study of a problem repeated across many communities that lack piped or protected water access.
