Two Unreported World episodes travel into and around North Korea. In the first, Marcel Theroux joins a business delegation courting foreign investment as the country marks its 70th anniversary, touring the Wonsan beach resort the regime calls its 'Benidorm' and its lone ski slope before taking a seat at the first Mass Games in five years, the choreographed gymnastics spectacle staged in the world's largest stadium. He weighs the official message of peace and openness against what the trip actually shows him. The second episode, reported by Seyi Rhodes, crosses into South Korea to examine 'Defector TV', the primetime shows and social media accounts where North Korean defectors, among the roughly 30,000 who have fled, become minor celebrities by describing life under the Kim dynasty. Some defectors also work as activists smuggling information across the border, part of what the film calls an information war aimed at eroding the regime's control over what its citizens know.
