Inside Wikileaks

2011 · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Julian Assange stunned governments in 2010 when WikiLeaks released more than 90,000 classified files on the Afghan war, followed by the Iraq War Logs and a flood of diplomatic cables. This report follows Assange through the fallout, tracking him from press conferences to hideouts as journalists, former WikiLeaks staffers, and government officials weigh in on whether he exposed necessary truths or endangered lives and informants. Cameras catch the scramble inside newsrooms partnering with WikiLeaks to redact and verify the material before publication, and the mounting pressure from Washington as the leaks spread. The film does not settle the hero-or-villain question it opens with; instead it lets the people around Assange, allies and critics alike, make their case on camera while he becomes increasingly guarded and isolated. What emerges is less a portrait of one man than a record of how a single archive of documents rattled diplomatic relationships and forced a public argument about secrecy that was still unresolved when the cameras stopped rolling.
