Introduction to Twisted Holography - Part 1
Kasia Budzik, a physicist at Harvard University, opens a two-part introduction to twisted holography, delivered at the Institute for Advanced Study's Prospects in Theoretical Physics summer program. She lays out the motivation for studying simplified, topologically or holomorphically twisted versions of the AdS/CFT correspondence, where supersymmetry reduces the full holographic duality to a more tractable algebraic problem. The talk builds up the chiral algebra and vertex algebra structures that appear on the boundary side of these twisted dualities, and sketches how they connect to protected sectors of string and M-theory backgrounds. As a first lecture in the series, it stays close to foundational definitions and examples rather than advanced applications, aiming to equip the audience with the vocabulary needed for the second part. The pace is that of a specialist summer school session, aimed at graduate students and researchers already comfortable with quantum field theory and basic representation theory.
