Iran's history spans seven eras in this film, each built around the monuments that defined it: the Achaemenid Empire and its palaces, on through to the Safavid dynasty and its mosques and bridges. Director Farzin Rezaeian, who also wrote the companion book, uses computer animation to reconstruct sites as they would have looked at their peak, rebuilding columns, courtyards, and city walls that survive today only as fragments or foundations. The film moves chronologically, treating each of the seven periods as a self-contained chapter anchored to a specific architectural achievement rather than a general timeline of rulers and wars. The animation carries most of the explanatory weight, standing in for archaeological evidence the camera cannot otherwise show. It is a straightforward survey aimed at viewers with little prior background in Persian history, more interested in showing what these civilizations built than in debating the politics or scholarship around them.
