Iraq's Secret War Files

2013 · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

When WikiLeaks prepared to release nearly 400,000 classified US military logs from the Iraq War in October 2010, this Channel 4 Dispatches team got advance access before anyone else in television. The film works through the documents alongside journalists and military analysts, tracing incidents the Pentagon never fully disclosed: civilian deaths at checkpoints, detainees handed to Iraqi forces despite reports of torture, and a death toll far higher than official figures admitted. Interviews with soldiers, officials, and people named in the logs fill in what the raw field reports leave out, while the film weighs what the leak reveals against the risks of releasing so much material at once. It sits inside the broader WikiLeaks story, alongside the Afghan War Logs and the diplomatic cables, but stays focused on Iraq specifically, using individual entries, a single ambush report, a checkpoint shooting, a prisoner transfer, to make an enormous archive legible as a war fought on the ground rather than in press briefings.
