Three years after the invasion promised Iraqi women freedom and equal rights, two Iraqi women set out with a camera to find out what actually changed. They spend three months traveling the country, filming conversations with women in their homes and neighborhoods rather than in front of officials or cameras from a news crew. The women they meet describe daily routines narrowed by fear: restricted movement outside the house, disrupted access to schools and clinics, and the constant calculation of what is safe to do or wear on a given day. Some talk about losing relatives to the violence that followed the invasion; others describe how quickly wartime chaos reached into ordinary domestic life. The film does not rely on politicians or analysts to frame the war's effects, letting the women's own accounts carry the story instead. Made for Channel 4, it sets the rhetoric of liberation that accompanied the 2003 invasion against footage of what has actually followed for Iraqi women in the years since, without narration smoothing over the gap between the two.
