World of Warcraft addiction is the subject, treated with a light touch rather than clinical concern. Anthony Rosner made the film as his final-year project at the University for the Creative Arts, writing, directing, shooting, and editing it himself, with visual effects from Dave Novis standing in for the game's fantasy world bleeding into ordinary life. The short follows a player whose hours inside Azeroth start crowding out everything outside it, using that collision for comedy as much as commentary. It found an audience well beyond a student screening: festival wins at the Phoenix Comicon Film Festival and Durham Film Festival, a Royal Television Society nomination for Best Factual Film, screenings in Brazil and Berlin, and radio coverage on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Surrey. Combined online views have passed a million. The premise stays simple throughout: what a compulsion looks like when the addict has to step away from the screen and rejoin the room he's been sitting in.
