Rebibbia, Italy's largest high-security prison, holds men serving decades for mafia crimes, murder, and trafficking. Most have never set foot in a theater. Three times a week, director Laura Andreini Salerno gets them out of their cells and into a performance hall built inside the prison, working with inmates who have no acting background toward a single goal: staging a play in front of their fellow prisoners and the guards who watch over them. The film follows rehearsals as hardened convicts learn lines, block scenes, and argue over interpretation, with the camera catching the friction between prison discipline and the vulnerability theater demands. Interviews with the men reveal what pulled them toward this unlikely project and what they think it might change, if anything, about how they see their sentences and each other. The performance itself becomes the film's climax, a strange, tense meeting of art and incarceration inside one of Italy's toughest facilities.
