Jesus Freaks
Creationfest is a four-day Christian rock festival held every summer in Eastern Washington, drawing thousands of young evangelicals for worship sets, altar calls, and headlining Christian rock acts. The film follows attendees and organizers through the grounds, catching sermons that double as pep rallies and fans who describe wanting to get, in the festival's own phrase, "Crunk on Christ." Interviews with musicians, festival staff, and teenagers in the crowd trace how faith, rock music, and politics blur together on site, with some attendees folding conservative political messaging into their testimony and others wrestling openly with how their beliefs fit the world outside the festival gates. The camera stays close to the worship services and concert stages rather than narrating from a distance, letting the event's own mix of revival meeting and rock show carry the description of what contemporary evangelical youth culture looks like from the inside. This is the first installment of a three-part series, ending with the festival still in full swing and its contradictions unresolved.
