Jewish Avengers: The Holocaust Survivors Who Sought Revenge Against The Nazis
After Germany's surrender, some Holocaust survivors decided justice would not come from courtrooms. This History Hit film follows the groups who took retribution into their own hands, including members of the Jewish Brigade serving inside the British Army, who tracked down suspected war criminals, forced confessions, and executed them without trial. It examines Abba Kovner's Nakam group, whose plan to poison the water supplies of four major German cities aimed to kill six million Germans in exchange for six million Jews, and a related plot to poison bread destined for Stalag 13, a Nuremberg detention camp holding former SS men. Interviews and archival material trace how these operations were planned, why most failed or were abandoned, and how assassinations linked to Jewish avengers continued for decades afterward. The film closes on an uncomfortable fact: despite killings spanning years and countries, none of the men and women involved were ever tried for their part in the vengeance campaigns.
