Justice
This MIT OpenCourseWare course examines what makes a society just by working through three rival theories: utilitarianism, libertarianism, and egalitarian liberalism. Lessons move from Jeremy Bentham's utility calculus through Robert Nozick's case for minimal government to John Rawls's theory of fairness, testing each framework against real dilemmas like affirmative action, income redistribution, and same-sex marriage debates. Materials include a full syllabus, assigned readings from primary texts, lecture notes, and study questions used in the actual MIT undergraduate course taught by Michael Sandel. There is no video lecture series bundled here, but the reading list, assignments, and discussion questions give a complete framework for working through the material independently.
