Katie Piper: My Beautiful Face

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Katie Piper was a model and television presenter from Andover, Hampshire, until a 2008 acid attack, arranged by an ex-boyfriend, left her with severe facial and throat burns. The film follows her through the aftermath: hospital wards, reconstructive surgery consultations, and the compression masks she has to wear against her own skin for months at a time. Piper narrates much of her own recovery, speaking candidly to camera about the moment she first saw her injuries in a mirror and about relearning how to appear in public. Doctors and surgeons explain the mechanics of skin grafts and the limits of what reconstruction can restore, while family members describe the toll of watching someone they know become unrecognizable to herself. The film doesn't turn her into a symbol before it shows the ordinary, grinding work of getting through each procedure. It ends with Piper starting to rebuild a public life on her own terms, using her recovery to speak for burns survivors more broadly rather than treating her story as finished.
