Kyiv's Techno Scene and Russia's War
Dasha, Vika, and Sasha once worked ordinary jobs in Kyiv's club scene. After Russia's invasion, they became organizers of Repair Together, a volunteer initiative founded in May 2022 by four figures from that same techno scene, which pairs physical reconstruction of bombed villages with music and community. In summer 2022 their "reconstruction raves" pulled in hundreds of volunteers from around the world to clear rubble and rebuild homes in northern Ukraine. The film follows the group as winter sets in and momentum falters: outdoor work sites can't compete with indoor parties, volunteer numbers drop, and most projects pause until spring. Dasha and Vika push to finish one house before the cold months end, convinced that if Repair Together doesn't deliver it, no one else will, since the state has no capacity to rebuild private homes during wartime. Interviews with the organizers and footage from the construction sites and social media campaigns they run to recruit help show a small NGO trying to hold a fragile effort together through a second wartime winter.
