Samuel Willenberg was one of only 67 known survivors of Treblinka, the Nazi death camp where an estimated 900,000 Jews were murdered over thirteen months. This film follows him decades later as he recounts what he saw there, his testimony carrying the weight of someone who rarely spoke publicly about it for years. Willenberg turned his memories into art, sculpting a series of bronze figures depicting fellow prisoners, guards, and scenes from the camp, and the film uses these sculptures as touchstones for his narration, moving between the objects and his recollections. The larger frame is the destruction of Poland's 3.5 million Jews, with Willenberg's account standing in for a history that has almost no living witnesses left to tell it.
