Germany legalized sex work as a service in 2002, on the assumption that everyone doing it is an adult acting by choice. This film follows two women whose experience contradicts that premise. Vivien worked for four years as an escort and dominatrix, raised in a single-parent household, chasing male approval, and raped once before she left the industry in 2022; she now works as a social worker with Sisters e.V., an organization that supports sex workers. Christina was forced into brothels and street prostitution by her drug-addicted mother, suffered repeated violence, escaped in a covert operation arranged through a women's shelter, relapsed back into the milieu for a year, and finally left for good; she now lives with her young daughter in a shelter. Former senior criminal investigator Helmut Sporer explains that since the law passed, human trafficking investigations have dropped even as women remain too afraid to testify against the men controlling them. Interviews carry the film, with Vivien and Christina narrating their own histories directly to camera.
