Life in a Day 2020
On July 25, 2020, people across the globe filmed their own lives and submitted the footage for this crowdsourced documentary, a follow-up to the 2011 original. Editors cut thousands of clips sent from dozens of countries into a single day, moving between a birth, a wedding delayed by the pandemic, protests, quarantine boredom, and ordinary chores, all shot on phones and home cameras by the people living them. The year's specific pressures show up unscripted: masks, empty streets, video calls standing in for visits, and the isolation of lockdown sitting next to moments of celebration and grief that would happen regardless. No single narrator or expert frames the material; the film lets one household's morning cut against another continent's night, trusting the accumulation of small, real moments to add up to a portrait of what living through that particular year actually looked and felt like, from the mundane to the extraordinary, without editorializing about any of it.
