Life in the Taliban's Afghanistan

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

After the U.S. military completed its withdrawal on August 30, 2021, the Taliban moved back into control of Afghanistan for the first time in twenty years. This film follows that transition on the ground, showing what changes and what doesn't in the weeks after the last American planes leave Kabul. Cameras capture checkpoints run by fighters who were insurgents months earlier, markets and streets adjusting to a new authority, and interviews with Afghans weighing what the return of Taliban rule means for daily life, work, and movement. Particular attention falls on the freedoms won during two decades of occupation, especially for women, and how quickly those gains are being rolled back or renegotiated street by street. The reporting stays close to ordinary routines rather than politics and generals, letting shopkeepers, families, and former officials describe a country trying to figure out its new rules in real time, without a script for what comes next.
