Life on the Autism Spectrum (Part 2)
Four people on the autism spectrum navigate the ordinary milestones that can become complicated when the world isn't built for how you process it. Sebastian searches for a romantic partner, weighing how and when to explain his diagnosis. Lena pursues a career in medicine despite setbacks that have repeatedly threatened to derail her training. Diane tries to get her son Elias settled into school, running into teachers and systems unprepared to accommodate him. The camera stays close and patient, favoring long observational scenes over clinical explanation, and the film uses visual touches meant to suggest how its subjects experience sound, light, and social space internally rather than simply describing it in narration. There is no voiceover expert walking through diagnostic criteria; the people carry the film themselves, speaking about their own strengths and frustrations in their own terms. The second half of this two-part DW series, it works as a standalone portrait of adulthood and childhood on the spectrum, built around specific lives rather than general statistics.
