Four young Germans describe what it feels like to be alone in a hyperconnected country. Ellen moves to Freiburg for university and struggles to build a social circle from scratch. Lilli, 19, holds left-wing values in Cottbus, a Brandenburg town where that makes her feel politically and socially cut off. Vanelynn, an influencer in Düsseldorf, is online constantly yet has almost no in-person contact. Gordon, in Stuttgart, lives with depression that has hollowed out his social life. The film follows each of them through daily routines and direct-to-camera interviews, letting them explain how isolation crept in and what, if anything, has helped: a new club, a support group, a small circle of trust. It treats loneliness as a widespread condition among the young rather than a personal failing, using these four cases to show how different its causes and shapes can be, from geography and politics to social media and mental illness.
