Along the forested border between Belarus and Poland, migrants from Iraq, Syria, and Egypt keep disappearing, some found dead in swamps, others never found at all. This DW documentary follows the case of Mohammed Sabah, who left his home in Erbil in Kurdistan in the fall of 2021, was pushed back into Belarus by Polish guards after weeks stuck in the neutral zone, and then went silent in December of that year. His uncle Rekaut, who has lived in London for fifteen years, becomes the family's link to Polish authorities and NGOs, traveling to the border region whenever he can. A video surfacing in October 2022 appears to show Mohammed crossing the fence into Poland, reviving hope without confirming anything. Polish volunteers in the Podlaskie region appear on camera describing the grim, often futile work of matching remains to missing-persons reports. The film stays close to one family's uncertainty rather than the wider policy debate, showing what it costs to not know whether someone is alive.
