Lost Places: Abandoned Soviet Space Telescope, Ghost Town & More
Urban explorers Josh and Cody split up for two separate expeditions into abandoned Soviet-era infrastructure. In Armenia, Josh teams up with rooftopper Elaina Hammeken to climb through a massive radio telescope left over from the Soviet space program, tracing its dishes and control rooms as they weigh in on what it took to build and why it was left to rot. Meanwhile Cody, with travel companion Elvis Brauer, heads to Ptolemaida in Greece to walk through the machinery and pit landscape of a mining industry town that has been hollowed out by decline. The film cuts between the two trips rather than treating them as separate episodes, giving a sense of how much abandoned industrial and scientific infrastructure is scattered across the former Eastern Bloc and its neighbors. Handheld camera work follows the explorers into structures that were clearly never meant to be climbed, and the hosts narrate what they find as they find it rather than after the fact.
