Louis Theroux spends a weekend inside American bodybuilding culture for his Weird Weekends series, signing up for a muscle workshop run by an ex-Marine turned personal trainer. He lifts alongside competitors preparing for contests, asking blunt questions about diet, training routines, and the physique standards judges expect on stage. The conversation keeps circling back to steroids: who uses them, how openly, and what the sport's official anti-drug stance actually means in practice when the top bodies in the room look chemically assisted. Theroux's usual method carries the episode, staying polite and slightly out of his depth while pressing gym owners and athletes on claims they'd rather not fully explain. There's no narrator stepping outside the footage to editorialize; the awkward pauses and half-answers do that work themselves. It plays as much for the culture clash comedy of a lanky British journalist in a world of oiled competitors as for whatever it reveals about drug use in fitness competitions.
